The Willa Cather Foundation and the Red Cloud Area Chamber of Commerce invite you to attend their business after hours and community open house on Friday, March 10, 2017. In addition to networking and conversation, the free event will feature tours of Red Cloud’s restored Moon Block.

On February 16 the Willa Cather Book Club will meet to discuss The Stories of John Cheever. Won the Pulitzer for Fiction in 1979. Known as the “Big Red Book,” these are some of the most anthologized stories in American literature. They chronicle suburban angst and petty cruelties. Read “Goodbye, My Brother,” “The Death of Justina,” and one more story of your own choosing to discuss.

Brought to us by Hastings Community Theatre in Hastings, NE. This Tony nominated, nostalgic, musical revue takes us back to turn of the century America.

The story of these changing times blazes to life in a tuneful, high-spirited brew of popular songs from 1890 to 1917, performed by five archetypes of the period: Anna Held, the beautiful music hall star; Emma Goldman, the notorious socialist; a domestic worker; a Chaplin-esque Russian immigrant; and the outrageous Teddy Roosevelt, the youngest man ever to be elected President.

On January 19 the Willa Cather Book Club will meet to discuss The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. 2014 Pulitzer winner for Fiction. Donna Tartt’s controversial award-winner follows middle-schooler Theo Decker as he comes of age and contemplates “the history of people who have loved beautiful things, and looked out for them, and pulled them from the fire.” There are two meeting times available; 4:00 p.m. at Cherry Corner Estates and 6:30 at the Cather Second Home.

Lester Junction is ready to take the stage for the third time. This homegrown band last entertained a sold-out audience in 2015 and they are sure to put on another stellar performance. They will play a mixture of original music, favorite country and classic rock songs.

The 6-member band consists of Joe Hersh (drums), Pat Hersh (bass/vocals), Lukas Rupprecht (guitar/vocals), Calhoun Rasser (guitar/vocals), Brooks Rasser (vocals), and Todd Mahin (bass).

Midwest Dueling Pianos offers a wildly entertaining music and comedy dueling piano show that the audience will love. The amazing Midwest Dueling Pianos show will provide high-end entertainment and thoroughly engage and entertain. The one-of-a-kind entertainment experience that is Midwest Dueling Pianos will have you singing, cheering, dancing, and laughing so hard they’ll be doubled over gasping for breath. This show is request driven so bring a list of your favorite songs.
