Young at Art: Related Programs for the Holiday Season
Children’s literature lovers are in for a treat next month! Young at Art: A Selection of Caldecott Book Illustrations makes its way to our art gallery on December 15, and teachers, students, and readers are invited to experience some of the vibrant artwork that the Caldecott Medal honors each year. Accepted by readers of all ages as some of the most memorable literary illustrations, this traveling exhibition from Wichita Falls Museum of Art’s permanent collection includes work from renowned Caldecott winners such as Dorothy P. Lathrop, Chris Van Allsburg, and Maurice Sendak.
In addition to the exhibit, brought to us by ExhibitsUSA, a program of Mid-America Arts Alliance with support from the Nebraska Arts Council and The National Endowment for the Arts, special activities and readings are available for visiting schools and children. Teachers and parents can contact education coordinator Rachel Olsen at rolsen@willacather.org to schedule a storytime, book discussion, or exhibit-related art activity in conjunction with an art gallery visit.
Concurrent with this exhibit opening on Thursday, December 16, our final 2021 Virtual Author Series event featuring Randolph Caldecott biographer and children’s literature expert Leonard Marcus will take place at 7:00 p.m.central time that same evening. This event is free but registration is required.
As part of our in-person holiday programming for children and families, a free screening of Jumanji will take place at the Red Cloud Opera House on Saturday, December 18 at 10:00 a.m. CT. This event is made possible through the generous support of the Red Cloud Chamber of Commerce.
