The Willa Cather Foundation and Road Scholar are proud to invite you to Red Cloud, Nebraska, this summer. As a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting appreciation and understanding of the life and works of Willa Cather, we would like to offer you, as committed learners, the opportunity to enhance your travels using our educational resources and historic facilities. The Foundation offers a wide variety of educational activities and explorations designed to facilitate a better, more comprehensive understanding of Cather and her importance in America's rich cultural history. Visitors will undoubtedly leave our site with a better sense of one of our country's most celebrated writers.
Red Cloud: Willa Cather's Window to the World
Walk in her footsteps and immerse yourself in the world of Pulitzer Prize-winning author Willa Cather. Hosting the nation's largest living memorial to an American author, the Willa Cather Foundation in Red Cloud, Nebraska, opens a rare window into Willa Cather's life, times, history and writings. Analyze the literature of this significant American author as you explore the small Western town that influenced her work. Discuss Cather's short stories and novels with a university professor and premier Cather scholar, and discover destinations related to the pieces you examine.

- Experience the thrill of a live performance in the Opera House just as Willa Cather did in her time.
- Discover new art in our Gallery, also located in the Opera House. Featuring many talented artists from the Midwest.
- View the PBS documentary, The Road is All. It is a wonderful journey through the life and works of Willa Cather.

Instructor: The event will be hosted by Steve Shively, member of the Willa Cather Foundation Board of Governors and Associate Professor of English at Utah State University. Shively earned his doctorate in English from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. As a faculty member at Utah State University, he teaches courses in English education and American literature. Among his specialties are the Harlem Renaissance and religious themes in the writings of Willa Cather.
