Registration is Open for Prairie Writers' Workshop with John T. Price

The Willa Cather Foundation would like to invite you to attend this year's Prairie Writers' Workshop scheduled for May 20-23. This is an exceptional opportunity for aspiring writers to gain insight from author, John T. Price. Four-hour workshops will be held throughout the residency. Participants will be encouraged to visit the Willa Cather Memorial Prairie to gain inspiration from the land and its rare forbs and grasses. The workshop will conclude with a public reception hosted by the Willa Cather Foundation Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. Price will read from his collection, and writers will have the opportunity to share their work with the public.

John T. Price is the author of the memoirs Man Killed by Pheasant and Other Kinships (Da Capo Press, 2008) and Not Just Any Land: A Personal and Literary Journey into the American Grasslands (U. of Nebraska Press, 2004). Born in Fort Dodge, Iowa, in 1966, he attended the University of Iowa, where he earned his B.A. in Religion, M.F.A. in Nonfiction Writing and Ph.D. in English. A recipient of a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts and other recognitions, his nonfiction writing about nature, family, and spirit has appeared in many journals, magazines, newspapers, and anthologies including Orion, The Christian Science Monitor, Creative Nonfiction, Isotope, and Best Spiritual Writing 2000. He is a Professor of English at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where he teaches nonfiction writing, and a fellow at the Black Earth Institute. He lives with his wife Stephanie and three sons in the Loess Hills of western Iowa.

6 p.m. Can We Build It?: The Structures of Home
Saturday: 10 a.m. Tour of the Cather Prairie/On-Site Nature Writing
1 p.m. The Cycles of Life: Nature as Guide
Sunday: 1 p.m. Giving Back: Sharing Our Writing and Our Places
3 p.m. Public Reception and Reading

Daily discussions and writing exercises will have a thematic focus that also connects with the individual stages of the writing process: Generating, Organizing, Drafting, Revising, and Sharing.
