Currently in the Gallery: Mike and Mary Dixon
Art by the Dixons on View in the Red Cloud Opera House Gallery
(Red Cloud, NE) — The Red Cloud Opera House Gallery is currently displaying two styles of artwork, including artistic photography by Michael Dixon and visual mixed media art, by his wife, Mary Dixon.
Michael Dixon takes a unique perspective on nature and his photos look at the parts of life that usually go unnoticed. The artist himself stated, “I use photography as a medium in many different ways. I am primarily an artistic photographer who chooses to showcase aspects of nature, objects, and people to evoke a response from the viewer. My aim is to engage the subject matter in an unconventional and creative way to allow the viewer a fresh perspective or revelation." Michael’s photos play with color and use the distortion or lack of color to emphasize a different frame of mind. The subject of his work focuses primarily on the Great Plains. Mary Dixon is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a MA in theology and a MFA in Creative Writing. She is a visual artist as well as a poet. She has published poems in various periodicals and alongside her artwork. The two pair together neatly, as her artwork attempts to explore the visual and poetic intersection of creative life. Currently on view in the Red Cloud Opera House Gallery are Mary’s paper mosaics depicting nature and women in nature with a fanciful flare. Artwork by the Dixons is on display in the Red Cloud Opera House Gallery now through December 29, 2014. Gallery operations are made possible through the support of the Nebraska Arts Council and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment.
