Willa Cather's Birthday Celebration and Open House

Join us in celebrating Willa Cather’s birthday! The National Willa Cather Center and Red Cloud Opera House will be open for guests to view the facilities, shop our bookstore, and enjoy a piece of cake.

Cather was born in Back Creek Valley, Virginia, on December 7, 1873, the eldest of seven children raised by Charles and Virginia. The family moved to Nebraska in April 1883, and settled into life in Red Cloud. Even after Cather moved away, she would return to Red Cloud often to visit family and friends and enjoy her beloved prairie.

The open house will run from 4:00-6:00 p.m. and will include a SPECIAL announcement at 5:30 p.m. that you won’t want to miss!
