Hommage: Willa Cather
In 2023, the Associació Internacional Duana de les Arts presented, for the fourth consecutive year, a catalogue of graphic arts contest winners in an exhibition called Hommage à trois. Each year this contest has been structured into three categories designed to honor the memory of three literary figures on the occasion of the celebration of their birth centenaries. The authors chosen in 2023 were:
Willa Cather (1873–1947)
Federico Garcia Lorca (1889–1936)
Wislawa Szymborska (1923–2012)
Graphic artists from around the world (engravers, printmakers, photographers, etc.) created work related to the biography, literary fragment, influences, historical or geographical context of their chosen author. 262 works of high artistic quality were presented to the jury. The winning works were exhibited in the Església Nova of La Ràpita in late 2023 and the works inspired by Willa Cather will be on display in the Red Cloud Opera House gallery at the National Willa Cather Center, May 21–August 10, 2024.
The exhibit includes the work of artists from Massachusetts and Kentucky, as well as Argentina, Spain, Poland, Austria, Belgium, Macedonia, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom. Following our exhibition in Red Cloud, the exhibition will return to Spain. Prints of select pieces are available for purchase.
The National Willa Cather Center wishes to thank Roser Pintó Fàbregas & Joan-Lluís de Yebra for helping to coordinate this international exhibit, and for their work in putting together the beautiful and informative catalog of the works.
