When the Burdens and their hired men in My Ántonia were snowed in for Christmas, Jake cut down a small tree and brought it home. Then Otto reached into his cowboy trunk to find beautiful cardboard cut-outs to decorate the tree. Here at the Cather Foundation, we too have searched our trunks to find old fashioned cardboard gift tags and ornaments that now decorate the tree and presents in the Opera House.
